Safety Leader of the Month Programme - 2018
The purpose of our Safety Leader of the Month Programme is to recognise seafarers who have served onboard Northern Marine managed vessels and demonstrated a positive attitude towards Safety in all aspects of their work and have actively contributed to the onboard safety culture of the vessel.
Criteria:
(1) The nominee must be a seafarer on a Northern Marine vessel.
(2) Nominees will be judged on following:
• Demonstrates good seamanship skills
• Active involvement in contributing to the vessel’s safety culture
• Active involvement in safety training
• Active involvement in BBS observations, finding barriers and reporting near misses
• Active involvement in Risk Assessment review and Toolbox talk meetings
• Knowledgeable of NM Policies and Procedures relating to Health and Safety
• Team player attitude
• Quality of work output
• Maintains a ‘keep the job tidy’ work ethic.
• Always uses correct PPE
(3) Any seafarer can nominate a co-worker simply by submitting a nomination to the SMT.
(4) The monthly award must be approved by the Safety Committee prior to being named as the recipient of this recognition.
Once a month, the on-board Safety Committee will review any nominations and the safety ethic of all vessel personnel. The crew member (officers and ratings) considered to have made the best contribution to safe working onboard will be considered for the recognition. Once the selection has been finalised, the SMT will present the winner with a Safety Recognition Pen.
Note: The Safety Leader of the Month will only be awarded for contribution that enhances the vessel’s safety performance. If the vessel’s crew safety performance has been noticed as poor or only average no award should be made.
