MAK MONITORING SYSTEM:
The MAK main engine is equipped with an electronic monitoring system. The system is built up out of the following parts; De Scana Moland (monitoring system), the system of the French company C.M.R., the Dicare (diagnostic computer program) and the cabinet of doctor Horn. The last mentioned part includes also the MAK safety system. The Scana Moland (the monitor in the control room) displays the process values of the main engine and generates alarms when the alarm set points are reached. The system of C.M.R. includes the Clarine and the S.C.P. (smart connecting pipe). Within the MAK system, the Clarine is used as a local display. In fact, it is the replacement of the old panel, which included various manometers and thermometers, located at the start/stop stand near the main engine. The Clarine has a monitoring function concerning the communication within the entire guarding system. The S.C.P. is a square pipe located at the portside of the main engine. It contains modules (printcards) which are connected to the various sensors. The S.C.P. is also connected to the CANBUS. The CANBUS is a data transmission cable. This cable is connected to the Clarine, Dicare and the Scana Moland. In fact, the S.C.P can be seen as a broadcasting system which sends signals to the various receivers. Process values are refreshed regular and can be read on the display of the Clarine. The Clarine guards the process of communication within the system. For this purpose it uses so called “nodes”(electronic components related to certain channels). At each end of the S.C.P, there is a node. The Clarine (Master) is asking a question concerning the communication, and the node (Slave) has to answer. In simple language; the Clarine says “Hello are you still there ?”, and the node has to answer. In case there is no answer, there will be a message on the clarine,s display with the text “node-guarding error”(mostly in combination with the message “node cannot be initialized”). In case of a node fall out ; a number of process values, depending which node, will turn grey on the clarine,s display. The values will not change anymore until the normal situation is restored (resetting of the messages). Failures concerning sensors (insulation faults), modules and communication problems are displayed on the screen of the Clarine. Every alarm message on the screen will activate the common alarm (Me screen display failure) at the Scana Moland. It means; go and look at the Clarine what is going on. The safety system can activate reduction commands and shutdowns in case of low oil pressure, high cooling water temperature, high exhaust gas temperature etc. This system is equipped double, which means there are two independent systems that can activate these shutdowns and reduction commands. The Dicare is a diagnostic computerprogram, it receives the data by the CANBUS and compares these data with the data recorded at various load conditions during the trial period. This program is installed in the controlroom,s computer.
