They were named after the Russian rivers - ‘Voronezh’ and ‘Tobol’ – located in the regions where long term charterer SIBUR has its operations.
Once delivered, the LPG carriers will transport LPG from SIBUR’s LPG and light oils transhipment terminal at Ust-Luga, near St Petersburg year round under a long term charter contract signed last year.
The new LPG carriers were designed in collaboration with the SCF Group to SIBUR’s requirements. Each vessel will be fitted with four type-C cargo tanks with a combined capacity of 20,600 cu m, capable of transporting cargo under a pressure of 540kPa.
Other design features include: a ballast water treatment system and a reinforced hull for non-stop year-round operations in the North Atlantic giving an active service life of 25 years, but significantly longer if the vessels are used in normal conditions.
The design of these 1B ice class vessels (Ice3 according to the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping) will allow them to operate effectively in the harsh conditions of the Baltic Sea, during winter.
They are due to be delivered to SCF in August/September of this year.
